Weng Fai is a widely read analytical thinker and writer with proven adaptability and situational awareness in fast moving information environments over a 30+ year career.
He earned his Bachelor of Urban Planning at the University of Auckland, New Zealand on a Colombo Plan Scholarship and a Master of Science in Geoinformation Systems at the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom, on a Raffles-Chevening Scholarship.
Trained as an urban designer, he started work planning Singapore’s physical infrastructure before being appointed as the first project manager to lead a team of more than 60 people to create a high-resolution digital map of Singapore and its associated information infrastructure. This has since become the bedrock of all subsequent digital maps of Singapore for a diversity of urban planning and environment applications. He has since taken his design and project management experience to apply to successful projects in China, India, Nigeria, Myanmar and others.
Weng Fai left public service to become a financial journalist with the Business Times covering energy & information technology and later with Dow Dones Newswires as their global oil correspondent. He has significant exposure to the tech startup incubator environment in charge of technical due diligence and market development for the energy and bulk chemistry sectors.
Outside his professional career, Weng Fai is actively engaged in healthcare education in Myanmar, Sabah and Cambodia, as well as teaching conversational English to migrant workers in dormitories In Singapore
